What is Functional Medicine?

First and foremost, Functional Medicine recognizes that we're all unique. Our genetic makeup varies, so a one-size-fits-all approach to well-being just doesn’t work.

While Conventional Medicine focuses on treating acute conditions with surgery and pharmaceuticals, Functional Medicine aims to uncover the root causes of chronic health issues.

Chronic illnesses aren’t triggered by just one thing; they result from a mix of factors (chronic stress, poor diet, infections, environmental toxins, and more). That's why Functional Medicine takes a detailed look at various aspects of your life. You become an active participant in your health journey, which is central to this approach.

Functional Medicine combines traditional Western medical practices with 'alternative' or 'integrative' medicine. It emphasizes prevention through nutrition, diet, and movement, and uses the latest lab testing and diagnostic techniques. Treatments might include a mix of botanical medicines, supplements, therapeutic diets, detox programs, and stress management techniques.

Functional Medicine is all about finding what works best for you, focusing on prevention and getting to the heart of chronic health problems.

When can I expect the “transformation”?

Creating sustainable health habits takes time and depends on how much change you're looking to make. You're the driving force in your health journey, so you get to set the pace for your transformation. Your progress depends on your willingness to actively participate and keep an open line of communication with your coach.

For coaching to be effective, you need to commit to exploring, changing, learning, taking risks, and persevering even when things get tough.

Staying motivated is easier when you celebrate every success, no matter how small. I’ll be here to encourage you and celebrate right along with you.

What is a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach?

A Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach uses the principles of Functional Medicine to empower you by identifying your strengths and values, and turning those into a roadmap for your health and wellness goals. As your coach, I’ll be there as an active and compassionate listener, guiding and supporting you throughout the process.

This is a collaborative journey where you take the lead, identifying which goals matter most to you so we can create strategies that resonate with you.

We take a “whole-person approach,” looking at all aspects of your life: nutrition, movement, sleep, personal and professional growth, physical environment, relationships, spirituality, and mind-body connection. This helps us get to the root cause of any health issues and work towards optimal well-being.

What to expect

Starting a journey toward self-empowerment and well-being is a big step, and I'm here to support you every step of the way. Once we decide to work together, we'll find the Wellness Plan that fits your unique needs and goals. Then, we'll schedule your initial 60-minute “Foundational Session” to set a strong foundation for your well-being journey.

To keep things smooth and secure, we’ll use a HIPAA-compliant client portal. This will be our go-to place for all communications, scheduling, virtual coaching sessions, forms, documents, and payments, making everything seamless and easy.

I kindly request that all forms be completed at least one week before our “Foundational Session”. This gives me time to review your information thoroughly, so we can make the most of our time together and dive deep into your personalized path to empowerment and joy.

How will I know if this is right for me?

06

Do you accept insurance?

I am not currently accepting insurance and recommend you contact your insurance carrier directly to see if they offer reimbursement for Health Coaching.  Should that be the case, I will provide you with a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance company. Additionally, Health Coaching may be covered by your HSA (Health Savings Account), or FSA (Flexible Spending Account), particularly if deemed necessary by your health care practitioner, so worth inquiring with your HSA or FSA plan administrators.
